The width of the rim is given by the ETRTO dimensions, for example 559 x 17 mm for a mountain bike Mavic XM 117 rim. 559 mm corresponds to the diameter of the rim, 17 mm width.

The rim base protects the inner tube of the heads of rays, it is therefore important to avoid punctures. Schwalbe rims below funds (non-adhesive) are particularly resistant and well designed. They are perfectly sized to the diameter of the rim to which they correspond, they are easy and install, and don't move any more once implemented. These funds of rims are already bored with the location of the valve, with a reinforcement around the hole.

 

Mavic recommends a 18 mm for its XM 117 rim rim base. However, after test, RIM 20-559 background fits very well and covers perfectly the bottom of the rim, particularly because of the shape slightly hollow rim.
